Mountain biking in bedgebury forest for beginners
Location
Bedgebury Forest Pinetum, located in Goudshurst, Kent, is ideal for a day out on your mountain bike with family, friends, or solo.
Bedgebury forest MTB trails are an excellent choice for beginners just discovering MTB trail riding. There is nothing too technical or intimidating here.. The climbs are relatively easy in comparison to other trail centres I have visited.
It does have some trail features, which are good fun and a good starting point for anyone new to the sport.
The Mtb trails at Bedgebury forest?
Bedgebury Blue Family cycling trail
The blue family cycling trail at Bedgebury is divided into two loops: a two-mile loop and a four-mile loop. On wide gravel paths, both can be ridden in either direction.
There are some sections which require a bit of uphill pedalling which is great exercise for adults and kids alike.
This trail would be rated green at most other centres ; there is no single-track or trail features on this route, however it is a great way to explore the forest.
There are adventure playgrounds along the route so all in all a great way to get active with the family in beautiful surroundings.
Bedgebury Red Singletrack Mtb Trail
The Bedgebury Forest singletrack MTB trail is 8 miles long and strictly one-way. It is a fun trail that is ideal for beginners and older children who are accompanied by an adult. You can go as slowly or as quickly as you are comfortable with.
People often comment on the Mtb trail grading system at Bedgebury, If you are familiar with red routes at other trail centres you may find that Bedgebury forest MTB trails will not be as challenging in terms of technical features. I would class this as a blue route which I have no problem with whatsoever as I just love blue routes!
For years, I would go to trail centre and completely disregard the blues in favour of a red trail.
I then realised how much fun they can be and how you can really get some speed and flow through the trails!
I live around a 1-hour 30-minute trip from Bedgebury Forest MTB Trails, therefore I don’t go there very often because I think there are other options closer to home. However, every time I leave, I always feel like I should come back more frequently.
Along the route, there are several climbs, such as the appropriately titled cardiac, which is a short, sharp ascent but a manageable push if your legs give out. Before this, there is a rest area called Louisa Lake where you can refuel or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
I usually end up doing 3 laps of the red route with a few runs of the black section.
The cake run- The final descent down to the visitor centre, is a lot of fun.. There are little jumps that can all be avoided. I do not jump at all but I did allow myself to become a passenger on a couple of these.
The trails are open all year round however they can suffer a bit after prolonged periods of rain and become a bit of a mud bath in places, but generally hold up ok.
Bedgebury black Singletrack section.
There is a short Black graded section of trail that is good fun.
There are a few drop-offs and step-downs where you can really pick up speed.
It is easy to loop back around to the start , have a few runs and pick up speed as your confidence grows.
Limp Foot Mtb Destination rating
As I mentioned earlier in this post I never leave this place disappointed. The red trail singletrack trail at Bedgebury forest is good flat-out fun.
I have used the bike hire a few times when needed but I would advise that you pre book.
Bedgebury forest MTB Trails is somewhere you can take a friend or family member who doesn’t normally ride and have a great time without putting them out of their depth.
Hire can be arranged here Bike hire
There are a lot of comments about the cost of parking at Bedgebury, being that other than parking this is a free facility I am more than happy to pay it. The latest charges can be found here Parking cost If you find yourself in the area I would say it is definitely worth a visit.
Based on the fact it is so good for beginners I am going to give it
8/10
What do you think of the trails at Bedgebury forest, worth a visit? Can you recommend any other places to ride near by?
